A portrait is more than capturing someone’s likeness, it’s a story told in a single frame. In this workshop, photographer and art director Nydia Shiang will walk you through the creation of your own self portraits.
Together, we will explore the tools of storytelling through portraiture. How do gesture, expression, creative direction, and composition work together to give an image emotional weight? From there, we will move into the foundations of studio lighting: understanding how light shapes mood, and learning to use it with intention.
The session ends with a hands-on portrait shoot using your own phone or camera, where you'll put it all into practice — building a one-light setup, directing a subject, and making creative decisions in real time, with guidance along the way.
